Adolphe Sax is the son of Charles Sax who made brass, wind and sting instruments. Adolphe Sax studied the flute and clarinet at the Brussels Conservatory in Belgium. In 1842 Adolphe Sax moved to Paris, France where he started his work on the Saxophone. In 1844 he first displayed his Alto Saxophone. In 1846 he got all of his saxophone designs patented. After Adolphe Sax made his first saxophone he and his father Charles Sax began working on many different types of saxophones such as the saxhorn, saxo-tromba and the saxtuba.
