1844 - Adolphe Sax finished his first Alto saxophone and he first displayed it in Paris, France where he lived.
1866- Adolphe Sax got all his saxophones patented - Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass.
1866 - Adolphe Sax's patent on the saxophone expired. Many different companies made changes to his design such as the Millereau Co. who patented a saxophone featuring a forked F# key.
1881 - Adolphe got his patent on the saxophone extended and he made many changes to his design. He lengthened the bell so that the saxophone could play a B flat and an A. Also the range of the instrument was extended so that it could play an F# and a G using a fourth octave key.
1888 - A right hand C trill key was added. The single octave key was invented and rollers for low E flat and C were added.
1894 - Adolph Sax died and his son Adolphe Edouard Sax took over the business.
1914 - Saxophones were a big part in Jazz bands and saxophones gained popularity in the 1920s.
